A few years ago I worked for a company that was working on a new recruitment drive. As part of that staff were interviewed for the 'What's it like to work for us?' video. Nearly every single person when used the word 'challenging'. It was used so often that it became a bit of a joke, like the blooper real at the end of a film. In fact one section went something like this:
Challenging,
Challenging,
Challenging,
Challenging,
Challenging, but rewarding.
I'm sure you've got the idea by now but, having read Mary Portas's excellent book Work Like A Woman I was reminded of this video and asked myself why this hadn't struck a chord with management at the time. If so many of your staff say that working for a company is challenging this an indicator of a company growing or is it an early indicator of stress within a company? Do things needs to change? Is the corporate culture supporting those valuable individuals that help the company and it's customers? Are the company values aligned to the corporate strategy or the people that will deliver that strategy?
Let me know what you think.
